A little tip: I clicked your commission link and it lead to the comments section, probably because of the way you copied it XD if you want to fix that, you simply have to remove the #comments part of the link :D just if you care :D

First a is it that you get so many people interested in this, while I've been offering commissions for years at comparable pricing.....and never even get more then five comments on my commission journals. ):

Second.....I think come pay day....Mwahahaha

Well she has been on DA for over a decade and as you can see she gets a lot of traffic. (Over 4 million page views), hence it is probably more likely that she'll be getting requests. Hope that helped!
Genisay Featured By Owner Jun 11, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I've been on DA for almost a decade now, and despite how I try, even though people swear to me up, down, left, right that my work in good or even amazing, some how I still don't seem to have people seeing it/interested enough to get that many page views.
TermanianStar Featured By Owner Jun 12, 2013  Professional Filmographer
Well DA isn't the end all means of art. I don't get much traffic (because personally I don't want to) but I focus more on real life than DA ( I do commercials and book trailers) I've also branched out and do Cosplay accessories as well as go to cons and sell my work there. I'd say branch yourself out. You might be pleasantly surprised! As for Ms. Moshkovitz; she's always associated herself will other popular artists throughout the years (wether or my they are still here varies), she's always super friendly and unlike some on this site she hasn't let her "God" status get to her, she constantly remains humble and always tries to improve herself (wether through schooling or otherwise). Lastly, though I think your art is good, Rotem's has something "special", and that is clearly evident.
Genisay Featured By Owner Jun 12, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
That's it...I need to figure out that 'something special' for myself. My art isn't nearly as good as it could be. My characters don't have nearly the sense of presence they should, and the poses are weaker then they could or should be. Somehow, I have yet to figure out how to /truly/ breath life into them and make them believable.
And right now, as far as being able to attend cons to sell my stuff, I don't have the funds to be doing those kinds of things on any regular basis, and I don't really know if I have anything that would be easily sell worthy. Most of my stuff right now (full time job leave little time for lots of art), is mostly commissions for other people, or sub-par works of my own characters. Yay, college loans after my major left me no where. I do however want to save up some money and take single terms of things like jewelry making and photography at my local community college, since unlike major colleges, you can take all kinds of things, one at a time, with out having to completely redo the whole college experience, and put yourself further into debt. I'm a little disgusted anymore with how most colleges are about getting as absolute much money out of you as they can, leaving you with a pile of debt, don't stand behind the whole 'we will help you get a higher education' thing anymore, and most of them don't have majors I'm interested in, only minors. I'm not really sure I want to have my money sucked away from me again through a major that doesn't interest me, so I can take something that does.....
TermanianStar Featured By Owner Jun 12, 2013  Professional Filmographer
Yeah, I feel you about the whole university/college thing. Back in the 70s school was actually affordable and minimum wage was just that, MiNIMUM wage, enough for you as student out of highschool. Now inflation has made everything expensive but the wage has stayed the same forcing people to go to higher education. "Get all these loans!" They say, when you finish in 4 years you'll make SO MUCH money and you can pay it off! Yeah right. You get out of school and then anywhere you go it's "oh 2 year MINIMUM work experience required for entery level position." :/ I was personally lucky enough that during school a professor of mine took me under his wing and let me work in his studio for 2 years, therefore when I finished I thankfully had that "experience" but many people don't (they'll what? Do an internship for a semester? Nearly not enough for what they are currently asking.) and the loans. I personally was lucky enough to ride the scholarship/grant wave and then worked my ass off from senior year in highschool and throughout college to cover the extra costs (lab fees, textbooks art supplies w/e. and I also commuted which lowered the living costs. Though I had to sacrifice a bunch for that. 4 hour ride, not having any free weekends, seeing my future husband only once every 3 or 4 months..) so I'm thankful for that. Sadly I have so many friends who are up to their eyeballs in debt and interest is NOT FUN (as you probably know). Good luck with everything! I wish you all the best.
Genisay Featured By Owner Jun 12, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Yeah, I ran into the issue that where I came from I couldn't do any majors I wanted because the schools in Montana didn't offer anything in art and digital media. So, because I wanted to go out of state, and wasn't part of 4H, DECA, a tribe or agricultural group, there /were/ no grants or scholarships for me. None! So if I was serious about going to college to do art, I had to go solidly on loans. And where did it get me? Yup...up to my eyeballs in debt, and no where else. I didn't actually finish my major (it turned out to not be something I wanted to do as a profession, made me /hate/ art for months after, only caused me stress, and destroyed my confidence in my art, which I spent years regaining on my own, and have never /completely/ gotten back), so my loans are not as bad as they could have been, but still bad enough.
It's really sad to say that college, or at least not spending a year or more looking through colleges and researching /them/ was one of the worst decisions I have made yet in my life.
Hence, once bitten twice shy of ever going to college again. I think instead I'll just save up and do class by class when I can, that way I don't have to mess with loans again. I'll check into PCC having any kind of small type scholarships for those kinds of classes.

I hear you. Our country is out of whack and I feel really bad for the people who live in the mid-northwest/south since, as you mentioned the amount of 4 year schools with specialized majors is scattered pretty thin and people have to really travel or pay a high price to find and go to these schools. :( I'm really sorry that happened to you. I'm kind of lucky/ not living on the coast where we have several Ivy League art schools within a mile radius of each other. (And regular Unis many with good art programs since its like... NYC. so NJ is all up in that.) Good because they are there, bad because the competition is crazy. But I digress we should probably continue this Convo via PM and not spam poor Vaps page with our rants.

How much for a "mini-comic" (about 3 panels)? I've had one on my mind for years but lack the skill to make it pretty as well as funny :hmm:
